Sojourner Gallery is pleased to announce our November show named REFLECTIONS FROM THE INNER CITADEL, a solo exhibition of artist Janet Rutkowski.
A Citadel represents a stronghold, fortress, and a place of safety in times of extreme danger. The remaining place of refuge during turbulence and war. Janet's installation is based on the concept of an inner safety zone. These walls are of a positive nature. Protection from chaos, criticism, and the confusion of present times.

Four steel towers are placed at the four points of a diamond formation. Janet is using
sacred geometry to create this haven. Each tower has its own meaning and energy. The first pieces stands at the entrance. A sentinel and guardian of the inner sanctum. Its title, “The Gatekeeper” is reminiscent of many fabled protectors such as The Sphinx, Manticore, Griffins, etc. Its sharp edges made of nails serve as a deterrent for those denied entry. The entire installation is set in a bed of black gravel with seemingly ancient relics embedded.

Curated by April Zhang-Autio, the exhibition will be on view November 7th - November 22nd, 2020, with an opening reception on Saturday, November 7th, 12 - 5 pm.
