Sojourner Gallery is pleased to announce Soft Sting, a solo exhibition of New York-based artist Jingyi Wang, featuring her newest body of paintings completed over the last year.

Being observant and perceptive, Jingyi Wang combines her solid sketching skills and imagination to form a new kind of figurative-realistic painting. In the past few years, Wang had experiences creating paintings with the cactus as the main subject. In this series, Wang intends to present audiences the dissonance between the fragile and acute. Wang’ s playful friend, Nexus, is excited to present our viewers her bond with the cactus. Although being restrained with a cactus, Nexus is searching for a alternative procedure to deal with her problem rather than panicking. The rich and saturated colors that Wang uses in this series expresses her attitude towards facing the struggles in life. Wang believes that humans can establish a harmonized relationship when exposed to critical situations, just like the connection between soft objects and the cactus. Under the detailed and strict stylized realism, she can reveal an innermost truth unachieved in objective painting. The unique surrealist paintin  techniques can be captured in her creation style- she combines the reality, instinct, and the subconscious.

Curated by Lan Zhang, the exhibition will be on view from October 24 to November 17, 2019, with an opening reception on Thursday, Oct 24, 6 – 8 pm. Please join us in celebrating Jingyi Wang’s solo exhibition.
