Sojourner Gallery is pleased to announce VOYAGES EXTRAORDINAIRES, an online artist panel talk by 7 guest artists via ZOOM.​

 

From the Earth to the Moon is an 1865 novel by Jules Verne. 

 

It tells the story of the Baltimore Gun Club, a post-American Civil War society of weapons enthusiasts, and their attempts to build an enormous Columbiad space gun and launch three people—the Gun Club's president, his Philadelphian armor-making rival, and a French adventurer—in a projectile with the goal of a Moon landing. 

 

Although three adventures successfully traveled aboard the projectile, they did not reach their destination. Instead of landing on the moon, the shell orbited the moon 2,800 miles from the moon. The destinies of the three astronauts are left inconclusive.

There is a group of practitioners migrating between Art, Computer Science, Architecture, Chemistry, and other subjects.

 

Just like the space and dimension from the Earth to the Moon, the boundaries of subjects are always mysterious, uncertain, and filled with potentiality. The practitioners turn to the indeterminacy, experiment, and practice in interdisciplinary works. Some of them primarily majored in Art, then converted to other subjects. The others are professionally researching in CS, Architecture, and Chemistry, etc., but also involved with the art field in many ways.

 

We are arranging this online artist panel talk discussing the influence of the interflow between technology and art to politics and practices. The talk provided by 7 guests and one moderator from different fields will present their unique experience and deconstruct the interactivity between Art and other subjects in a virtual way.

This is going to be a live event on May 21st, 2020, at 10 am (NY) EST through Zoom and open to the public, featuring guest artists and moderators from different fields and cities worldwide.
